Internal Medicine

Sometimes It Takes A Team, And Sometimes It Takes A Veterinary Internist.

Urban Animal is fortunate to have a board certified veterinary internal medicine specialist on staff. Below is a list of common advanced procedures performed by Polly Peterson, DVM, DACVIM and our internal medicine team.

Polly Peterson, DVM, DACVIM, is a specially-trained internist who oversees Urban Animal’s Internal Medicine Department. Dr. Peterson has more than 20 years of experience and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Cell and Molecular Biology and completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University. She completed her internship at North Carolina State University and a residency in Internal Medicine at Texas A&M.

Most internists work within 24-hour specialty hospitals. It’s a rarity for a general practice to have a board-certified internist on staff – this makes Urban Animal unique. Dr. Peterson shares her expertise with the other skilled veterinarians who are overseeing our urgent care cases.

All internal medicine consultations need to be scheduled appointments at Capitol Hill with Dr. Peterson.

The IM team is led by Polly Peterson, DVM, DACVIM who is a specially-trained internist. Dr. Peterson has more than 17 years experience and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Cell and Molecular Biology and completed her doctorate of veterinary medicine at Washington State University. She completed her internship at North Carolina State University and a residency in Internal Medicine at Texas A&M.

In the fall of 2023, Urban Animal embarks on something truly different – in the veterinary industry and the U.S. – a workers’ cooperative. In the last decade, there has been an insane influx of private equity and venture capital into the industry which has drastically changed the trajectory of how veterinary medicine is delivered and what it costs.

As a workers’ cooperative, Urban Animal is poised to keep how veterinary medicine is practiced and who influences how the industry evolves in the hands of those on the frontlines – veterinary professionals not a faceless cadre focused solely on the bottom line. Urban Animal Cooperative strives to be sustainable and transparent with a democratically-governed organization where employees have a voice in how the company grows, keeping pets, people and profits in harmony. How Urban Animal delivers veterinary care is by embracing convenience, in its multifarious definition and subjective interpretation. First, convenience in our walk-in model promotes a fast-paced environment, respectful self-advocacy, and economically-priced services with the flexibility of same day service. Secondly, convenience also thrives in our appointment model which promotes an opportunity to schedule dedicated time with enhanced conversations in a more relaxed space when more time with the veterinary team is desired and financial resources are more fluid.

Regardless of model, Urban Animal’s veterinary team provide compassionate, option-based veterinary care by professionals with extensive experience in the field of veterinary medicine. We are passionate about providing accurate information regarding your pet’s health, while also presenting a range of treatment options. Currently with three convenient locations in Capitol Hill, Downtown Seattle, and White Center  – with FREE PARKING – Urban Animal is not your everyday veterinary practice and you’ll sense the difference the moment you step through our front door.

We provide options and discuss calculated risks (evidence-based medicine + experience) so you can make the best decisions for you and your pet.
