Since that time, Urban Animal has built a well-known and reputable practice which proudly hails the role of an independent company transforming the veterinary industry by remaining non-corporate and managed from top to bottom by veterinary professionals on the frontline and in the back office. We are here to strike an ideal balance between creating economic security for everyone who works within our company, influencing other veterinary professionals within the industry, and providing essential veterinary care to pets to help those clients who love them. Urban Animal wants to have a positive effect on how the veterinary industry evolves.
In the fall of 2023, Urban Animal embarks on something truly different – in the veterinary industry and the U.S. – a workers’ cooperative. In the last decade, there has been an insane influx of private equity and venture capital into the industry which has drastically changed the trajectory of how veterinary medicine is delivered and what it costs.
As a workers’ cooperative, Urban Animal is poised to keep how veterinary medicine is practiced and who influences how the industry evolves in the hands of those on the frontlines – veterinary professionals not a faceless cadre focused solely on the bottom line. Urban Animal Cooperative strives to be sustainable and transparent with a democratically-governed organization where employees have a voice in how the company grows, keeping pets, people and profits in harmony. First, convenience in our walk-in model promotes a fast-paced environment, respectful self-advocacy, and economically-priced services with the flexibility of same day service.
