When Urban Animal states we pioneered a different model of veterinary care when we opened our doors in 2012, we mean it. When others went straight ahead, we took the next exit.
When Urban Animal announces we have a different ownership structure, unique to the veterinary industry to combat corporatization and commodization of our industry, we mean. When others sold to private equity groups, we said, “no thank you” and created a workers’ cooperative.
Urban Animal believes is important to the industry to do things differently and in the fall of 2023, Urban Animal embarks on something truly different – in the veterinary industry and the U.S. – a workers’ cooperative. As a workers’ cooperative, Urban Animal is poised to keep how veterinary medicine is practiced and who influences how the industry evolves in the hands of those on the frontlines – veterinary professionals not a faceless cadre focused solely on the bottom line. Urban Animal Cooperative strives to be sustainable and transparent with a democratically-governed organization where employees have a voice in how the company grows, keeping pets, people and profits in harmony. Urban Animal strives to find the optimal balance between business and employee-centric practices. Our two models – walk-in and by appointment – can help the most clients with what works for their lives and their pet’s needs. We are open Monday through Saturday, from 8am – 8pm. Balancing business and employees is at the heart of the workers’ cooperative.
